A nic shot is a convenient way to add nicotine to a zero-nicotine e-liquid, they are very cheap and readily available. Supplied in a 10ml bottle, usually containing 18mg of nicotine which can be diluted down to 3mg when mixed into a larger bottle of e-liquid.
How much you add to a bottle will depend on the size of the e-liquid you’re adding a Nic shot to, for a 50ml shortfill you will need to add one whole bottle to make a 3mg mix, for a 100ml bottle you will need to add two whole bottles for a 3mg mix.
Nic shots are available in a variety of ratios, the most popular are 100%VG, 70VG and 50VG.
A nic salt shot is a nicotine shot that contains nicotine salt base rather than the traditional freebase nicotine, this produces a much smoother vape and some Vapers report finding them much more flavourful after adding a salt shot.
Shortfill e-liquids are designed to be mixed to a maximum of 3mg, adding any more than one nicotine shot to a 50ml bottle, or any more than two to a 100ml bottle will be diluting the flavour more than intended. Some people do mix shortfills to 6mg and get on ok with them, however, you should first consider how strong the flavour is. If the flavour you’re intending to mix is very strong then adding an extra shot may be ok. However, if a flavour is quite weak to begin with, adding an extra shot will only make it even weaker.
Adding a nicotine shot to a shortfill is very simple, you first need to remove the cap and nib from the shortfill bottle to allow you to add the nicotine, some bottles feature a flip-and-pour cap designed to make adding a nicotine shot easy, and some bottles, such as the chubby gorilla bottles will require a special tool like the Alpha 3 cap remove to open them. Once the cap and Nic have been removed it's just a case of adding the nicotine into the bottle, replacing the nib and cap and giving it a good shake for several minutes to ensure the nicotine is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
