Sub-Ohm Vape Kits

Sub-ohm vape kits are a type of vaping device that allow you to use much thicker e-liquid (70VG or higher, sometimes known as shortfills) to produce much thicker and flavourful clouds. Sub ohm vaping is usually done with powerful devices such as box mods that offer lots of customisable options like variable wattage, temperature control, external battery options, and an array of coil choices when paired with a suitable DTL (direct-to-lung) vape tank.

The term "sub-ohm" means a coil resistance is below 1.0ohms. Sub ohm coils are usually bigger and more robust allowing for bigger drags with thicker e-liquids. Because the coils are bigger, they can wick thicker e-liquid. Sub ohm vapes should be used with 70VG/30PG or higher e-liquid, preferably with less than 3mg of nicotine. This is because the high power of a sub-ohm vape kit vaporises lots of e-liquid in one drag making it easier to overdo the nicotine.

To complete your sub ohm set up you'll most likely need external batteries paired with an external battery charger. This encourages safe charging for external batteries. However, some sub ohm vape kits have internal (built-in) batteries

About Sub-Ohm Vape Kits UK

Sub-ohm vape kits are devices built for high power vaping using thick vape juice. Sub ohm vape juice is usually categorised as any e-liquid featuring a ratio of 70VG/30PG or any high VG vape juice. Sub-ohm kits usually feature a box mod and a suitable DTL vape tank that work together to create thick, flavourful, and powerful clouds. Simply put, sub-ohm vaping is the combination of high wattage vaping (40W or more), a low coil resistance (below 1.0ohm), and a high vg e-liquid. Sub ohm vaping wasn't created to replicate the feeling of cigarettes like many vape devices. Sub-ohming is for people who enjoy getting every last drop of flavour out of their e-liquid and enjoy creating thick vape clouds. Don't worry, you can still sub ohm nicotine, we'd not recommend vaping anything over 3mg though. This is because a lot of nicotine is vaporised when you take a big sub ohm drag and it's easy to inhale too much nicotine.

Vaping sub ohm is considered a more advanced way of vaping. To vape sub ohm requires a bit more vaping knowledge than your typical pod kit or MTL vape kit. You must know what wattage your vape should be at depending on the resistance of the coil. However, once you've set up your vape kit you'll enjoy vaping more than you thought you would. A sub ohm vape will provide you with the tastiest of vaping experiences.

Sub ohm vapes are one of the more advanced vapes available on the market. Sub ohm vaping is categorised as vaping high vg vape juice with a coil resistance lower than 1.0ohm, paired with high power. When you combine these together you get deliciously big vape clouds and full-on-flavour puffs. Sub-ohm vapes are created to be inhaled DTL. DTL stands for 'direct-to-lung'. This is where you take the vapour straight to lungs, bypassing the act of holding the vapour in your mouth before "taking back". This is different to MTL (mouth-to-lung) vaping and much different to smoking a cigarette, so is recommended more to experienced, regular vapers.

Sub ohm vapes usually contain 3 separate pieces of kit. The box mod, the vape tank, and the external battery. There are so many different styles of box mods and sub-ohm vapes with an array of different features. Some include smart modes, touchscreens, temperature control, and many other features. All of these features enhance your vaping experience. Vape tanks also come in many different formats, offering different coil types and airflow options. The great thing about sub ohm kits is the interchangeability that comes with them. The majority of tanks can fit with the majority of box mods so you can always mix and match different brands and styles. Most sub ohm tanks feature a 510 connector, however it's always best to check the description of your mod and tank to make sure they're compatible. The last piece of the sub-ohm puzzle is an external battery. The two most common types of vape batteries are 18650 and 21700 batteries. Most mods will require either a single 18650 or 21700 battery, or dual 18650s. Make sure you check which batteries you need before purchasing a kit as sub ohm box mods don't come with external batteries.

The best vape juice to use when sub-ohm vaping is a high-VG e-liquid that contains 0mg to 3mg of nicotine. These e-liquids commonly come in the form of 50ml or 100ml shortfills. Sub ohm vape kits are known for producing huge amounts of power. This means the wattage and voltage are usually very high while the resistance of the coil (ohms) is low. Because of this high power, a lot of vape juice can be vaporised in one puff. Most people do not choose to sub-ohm vape if their main goal is nicotine delivery. Small pod kits using nic salts would be better for this type of vaping. When choosing an e-liquid for your sub ohm kit make sure it checks off these rules:

  1. A high VG (vegetable glycerine). content. Thicker e-liquids perform best in a sub-ohm kit. VG is the part of an e-liquid that makes it thick. You can slightly customise the ratio of your shortfill e-liquid depending on which nicotine booster shots you use.
  2. Low nicotine strength. No more than 3mg of nicotine is recommended when vaping at such high wattages. Vaping high nicotine sub ohm can cause an array of issues. You may get an extremely harsh throat hit, not to mention over-doing the nicotine which can cause you to feel nauseous and cause headaches. It's best to stick with a nicotine strength in the range of 0mg-3mg.
  3. Most importantly, the flavour. There are hundreds of e-liquids to choose from when sub ohm vaping which makes it so easy to choose a flavour you'll love. We stock many brands with different flavour profiles here. Sub-ohm vaping allows for a great flavour experience so take the opportunity to try some of the best e-liquids created.

Depending on what your vaping goals are, sub-ohm vaping may be better for you than many other types of vaping. Unlike disposable vapes and MTL pod kits, nicotine consumption is not at the forefront when it comes to sub ohm vaping. To vape sub ohm is to enjoy a vape juice flavour and the clouds it can produce, without focusing on the nicotine intake. If you're looking for a vaping device that replicates the feeling of smoking cigarettes then sub-ohm vaping isn't for you. You'd be best suited to vaping disposable vapes or pod kits that can offer a smooth nicotine salt delivery similar to a cigarette. However, if you're looking for a way to vape low nicotine strengths with big clouds and a bucket load of flavour, sub ohming is the best choice for you. Vaping DTL is great for people who love to play around with powerful kits, and to customise their vaping experience in depth.

Sub-ohm vaping is usually catered towards people with a deeper interest in vaping and have a more expansive knowledge in the world of high-wattage vaping. Because of this, the more high-tech vape kits can cost more than your usual MTL vape pen.

Even so, sub ohm kits, mods, and tanks all have various price points depending on the manufacturer and the levels of customisation available. Most AIO mods (like the Stubby AIO) and mech mods (like the VCM Reborn by Vaperz Cloud) will top off at the most expensive mods available coming in at a few hundred pounds. These types of kits cost a lot of money due to the impeccable craftsmanship they required, as well as the expensive raw materials. For most people, these kits may be out of the question, however people who love experimenting with really high quality sub ohm kits then these types of mods are perfect.

There are vape kits built for sub-ohming that are relatively more affordable. These all-in-one kits usually feature a built-in battery and some sort of pod for a tank like the Aegis Boost Pro by Geekvape and the Drag H80s by Voopoo averaging at around £40. These kits are perfect for entering into the sub-ohm world of vaping and offer an easy transition, especially if you were using a MTL pod kit before. These kits are affordable and offer the basics needed for DTL vaping, however lack customisation for the most part.

You can customise your sub-ohm vaping even further, however it does come at extra cost. Brilliant box mods usually fall in the region of £40-£70, and a suitable DTL tank will cost you anywhere between £20-£40. There are of course vape mods and vape tanks that are either more expensive or less expensive, however this is what you should expect as an average price for a great quality sub-ohm kit. You can pair different box mods with different sub-ohm tanks until you find your favourite combination.

Maintaining sub-ohm kits can become expensive, however most people will just need replacement coils or replacement cotton every now and then, and batteries are advised to be changed every 6 months to maintain safety and efficiency. If you're using shortfill e-liquid you'll be saving a lot compared to 10ml bottles, and you'll save even more if you mix your own e-liquids.

The short answer is yes, you inhale more vapour in one drag when using a sub-ohm kit, therefor you'll be inhaling more nicotine than you would in a MTL vape. This is why it's recommended to only use low nicotine strengths (3mg or less) in your sub-ohm kit. Using a nicotine strength higher than this can result in adverse side affects like a sore throat, nausea, headaches, and more. If you're looking to vape higher than 3mg then we'd recommend using a MTL (mouth-to-lung) vape kit like a small pod kit that replicates the feel of smoking a cigarette, especially if you use nic salts with them.
